National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. The Holly Grove chapter of NHS participates in a yearly group service project; in 2008 we collected food to provide more than 60 bags for the Thanksgiving dinners provided by Family Connections of Pocomoke. We also encourage individual service for school and community, with members required to participate in an individual service project of their choice

The requirements for membership in NHS include maintaining a 3.5 grade point average and the other requirements of leadership, service and character. The Faculty Council determines eligibility and invites qualified students to join the NHS in their sophomore, junior or senior year.
