Summer Reading
| Students are to purchase and read before school starts; there will be a test the second day of school. All High school students are required to participate in the summer reading program. It is a part of their curriculum and enhances their vocabulary and analytical skills. Please have your student read the book listed below during the month of August, so it sill be fresh in their minds when returning in September. |

| 11th grade: | - The Oath, by Frank Perretti (Needs to be read by January. We will begin discussion after mid-term exams.)
- Billie Budd, by Herman Melville
- Of Mice and Men
- The Three Muskateers

| 12th grade: | - A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens
- All Quiet on the Western Front (Needs to be read by January. We will begin discussion after mid-term exams.)
- Pride and Prejudice
- Tuesdays with Morrie

| 10th-12th | Books should be completely read by the very first day of school; We will begin immediately with discussion and grades. |
| EACH NOVEL IS TO BE | Accompanied by a 3 page typed report that addresses the following questions in essay form....and....with evidence from the novel. |
| | 1. What is the theme of the novel? |
| | 2. How do the characters of the novel demonstrate this theme? |
| | 3. Who is the main character of protagonist and what is his or her purpose in the story? |
| | 4. Who is the antagonist and what is his or her problem or concern with the protagonist? |
| | |
| | Remember, essays and reports have both an introduction and a conclusion as well as transitional comments that lead one paragraph to another. |
